"My view on the role of government in our lives is that it should create and maintain a safe, secure and stable foundation for the citizens and businesses within its borders to thrive." - Eric Nowicki
Every Missourian can agree, we ALL pay too much in taxes. This is why I want to lower the taxes that affect YOU the most. I want to focus on lowering or removing the sales tax, which each person pays equally but has a greater effect on lower income families the most we all need food and toilet paper.
I also want to lower taxes on small businesses. As the primary drivers of economic growth, small businesses are the ones that are most likely to reinvest any money saved from tax breaks.
I firmly believe there is a way to lower taxes and still maintain or improve state services. This belief is why, if elected, I will go through the various appropriations bills, line by line, to recommend funding changes to leadership of both parties.
Taking care of the elderly among us has increasingly become the responsibility of their children and this has caused great strain on families as they juggle careers, kids and taking care of parents. Since most caregivers are family and untrained, this makes for uneven care.
I would like to work with state, local and private organizations to determine solutions for elderly long-term care and housing that everyone can afford.
St. Charles County is the convergence point for both the Mississippi River and Missouri River. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of those towns, counties and states upstream when it comes to water control.
I will focus the attention of Jefferson City on the needs of our county. This means looking at funding opportunities to protect our towns and farms along the rivers from flooding and increasing coordination and planning between Federal, State and Local organizations for a better water management strategy.
Utility costs continue to increase for all Missourians, which means less money in your pocket every day. I want to work with local and state water, electrical, gas, cable and internet utilities to figure out ways to save you money every month.
Paying for college is often times one of the biggest deterrents to continued education. I believe everyone should have access to higher, state education. This belief is why, when elected, I will work with state colleges and universities, the Missouri Department of Education and my fellow elected officials to reduce the cost of tuition to state institutions of higher education and increase access for ALL.
You should know where your tax dollars are going, how government contracts are being awarded and how contractors are being held accountable for work done on behalf of tax payers. I will work with others in the General Assembly to establish a Truman Committee with the goal of eliminating waste and inefficiency, ultimately saving YOU money.
For over 50 years these two issues have divided the populace and the two main parties. They are consistently used by candidates to get elected to public office and often times common sense solutions are ignored by those in power. I believe the PEOPLE are best positioned to recommend solutions to the General Assembly.
If elected, I would work to setup a Citizen Committee to propose agreed upon solutions to the General Assembly on both of these issues. Missouri has a long history of citizens taking the lead on issues through constitutional amendments- this is a natural continuation of a system that has worked for Missouri and this would help to reduce the grid lock on these issues.
